Blog Prompt 7

Krakauer's self-expression strengthened McCandless's story. It impacted me more when he related himself to the story he was telling. It showed that he had some experience and knowledge about Chris' type of journey and that he wasn't writing it blindly. It seemed more purposeful and trustworthy because of his story. I feel that the story is more "legit" because of this as well. I believe that Krakauer supports himself in telling Chris' story by his own self-expression.

  1. I agree with you on the fact Krakauer’s self-expression strengthen McCandless’ story. I totally thought because Krakauer had a similar a experience to McCandless, it gave him more credibility to write about what McCandless went through. I also liked the fact that there were parallels between Krakauer’s life/adventure and McCandless’. How both of them had unstable relationships with their fathers and they both took a journey into the wilderness to find happiness and themselves. Overall I thought it was a very good choice for Krakauer to put his story in Into The Wild. I thought it was interesting, added to the story, and helped Krakauers credibility because he really could relate to McCandless’ experience.

  2. I also agree with you, and Cammi, because I thought he was just choosing sides and making up his own story. After seeing so many similarities though, I had to agree with the fact that he knew what he was talking about. I really didn't understand why he had so much interest in Chris until he told us his story. Know the whole book makes more sense.
